The happening carried a lot of drama, in particular by theway the events unfolded. Marchionne had already announced, at the end of May, during FCA Capital Markets Day - which turned out to be his last major public event - that a succession process would happen next year. But on Saturday, July 21, and laconically, FCA reported that health complications would make it impossible for Marchionne to return to his professional duties and for this, Mike Manley, the responsible for the Jeep brand until then, had been appointed as the new CEO.
